Bringing Learning to Parliament
Kia ora homeschooling families,
This Wednesday, 27th of May, we are taking our learning to the lawn at Parliament in Wellington from 11am to 2pm.
We want to show Parliament and the public what homeschooling in New Zealand really looks like — happy, well-rounded, committed families who care deeply about our children’s education.
What to expect:
Families setting up learning zones on the lawn
Picnic lunch together
Kids doing maths, reading, art, music, and games
Colourful balloons and positive vibes
Grandparents, friends, family and supporters very welcome!
Bring along:
Picnic blankets and food
Books, art supplies, instruments, games, maths equipment
Clothing suitable for rain or shine
Track gear or special activity uniforms if your kids have them
Smiles and good energy!
This is a peaceful, positive, family-friendly event focused on one issue only. We are asking MPs to dismiss Amendment Paper 583 and engage in proper consultation with the home education community.
Come along and help us show the strength, joy, and diversity of New Zealand Home Educators

Code of Conduct for Participants
We are proud to represent New Zealand’s homeschooling community at this event. Our behaviour will reflect the positive, respectful, and focused values we teach our children. This event is strictly focused on one issue only: the Education and Training (System Reform) Bill, Amendment Paper 583.
All participants agree to:
Single Issue Focus
This gathering is solely about homeschooling and the call for proper consultation on Amendment Paper 583. No placards, signs, banners, slogans on clothing, or materials relating to any other topic will be permitted. This includes (but is not limited to) criticism of schools, Covid-19, mandates, political parties, or any other organisations or individuals. This is a non-partisan, community-led event.
Clothing and Uniforms
Children are welcome to wear uniforms or clothing unique to their personal activities to demonstrate the breadth and variety of homeschooling (for example: sports/track gear, Scouts, Boys’ Brigade, St John’s, dance, martial arts, music, or cultural attire). Wearing such clothing is not intended to imply any endorsement from or of those organisations, nor does it broaden the scope of this event beyond homeschooling issues.
Respect for Parliamentary Grounds:
Respect the lawns and flower beds at all times.
Stay behind all barriers and use only designated walkways for entering and leaving the area.
Remove all rubbish and leave the site cleaner than we found it.
Follow all expectations for protests and demonstrations as outlined by the Office of the Speaker: https://www3.parliament.nz/.../protests-demonstrations/
Peaceful and Positive Conduct
Maintain a calm, friendly atmosphere. No shouting, aggressive language, or confrontational behaviour.
Family-Friendly Environment
Keep all language and behaviour appropriate for children. Supervise children at all times.
Respect for Others
Be courteous to MPs, parliamentary staff, Police, media, members of the public, and other families.
Media Interaction
Only designated spokespeople will speak to media. All interactions should remain positive and on-message.
Participants who do not follow this Code of Conduct may be asked to leave the gathering.
Thank you for helping us present New Zealand homeschooling families as responsible, joyful, and dedicated — focused clearly on one important issue.
