NCHENZ Website Highlight - Constitution

Last week we had our Annual General Meeting where our constitution was amended so this month's website highlight is of course our constitution page.

To find this, first go to our home page https://www.nchenz.org.nz/ then in the top bar you will see “About” which is a drop down box, in that drop down menu select “Our Constitution” this will open a PDF.

Members Favourite Resource - YouTube @khanacademy

Each month we will feature a member's favourite resource. This is a way for members to share with their community, not an endorsement, NCHENZ recommends you do your own due diligence before purchasing any resource, to ensure it meets your needs.

As said by 17 Year old “My favourite resource is YouTube @khanacademy, they have heaps of stuff but I love their Algebra 1 playlist the most, it really helped me with understanding difficult maths concepts.”

Description on Khan Academy YouTube page
Khan Academy is a nonprofit providing a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. Our interactive practice problems, articles, and videos help students succeed in math, biology, chemistry, physics, history, economics, finance, grammar, and many other topics.

Do you have a favourite resource you would like to share in the next Monthly Notices; Please send it to monthlyupdates@nchenz.org.nz

Winter Wonderland Formal Dinner & Dance 2026 - REGISTRATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

Calling all homeschooled teens aged 14–18! It's time to register for what promises to be another unforgettable South Island Homeschool Formal.

Saturday 8th August 2026
Empower Church, St Albans, Christchurch

Dress up, celebrate, connect with friends, enjoy a delicious dinner, and dance the night away in our magical Winter Wonderland setting. Whether you attended last year or are joining us for the first time, we can't wait to welcome you.

PLUS! This year we're also hosting a Friday Night Pizza & Games Hangout on Friday 7th August from 6:30pm–9:00pm at the same venue. It's the perfect opportunity to meet new people, reconnect with friends, and kick off the weekend before the formal.

Due to funding timelines, we weren't able to secure support in time to deliver the full conference-style event we originally hoped for this year. However, the feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, and we are already working towards making the larger conference vision a reality in future years.

To register for either or both events, please complete the registration form. Inside you'll find:
• Event details
• Costs and payment information
• Plus One information and registration process
• Event expectations and guidelines
• Volunteer opportunities

Each attendee may bring one Plus One if they wish. Information about eligibility and the separate Plus One registration process can be found within the registration form. The registration link for Plus One's is also included below.

We would also greatly appreciate support from parents and caregivers. We will be looking for volunteers to assist with supervision, decorating, setup, and pack down across both events. If you're able to help, please let us know in the registration form.

If you have any questions, please contact us at youth@mahimatatoa.org.nz.

We are so excited to bring our homeschool youth community together again for a weekend of friendship, fun, connection, and memories that will last a lifetime.

A night to remember awaits.

There were a lot of posts in regards to the amendment paper, many of which are now out of date as the amendments were revoked completely on May 27th. Thank you to everyone involved for all the hard work that got us here.

If you missed anything you would like to catch up on or want to keep up to date with how things are progressing from here our website page: https://www.nchenz.org.nz/free2homeschoolnz is the easiest way to do this. It has all the historical events that occurred and will be updated as things occur moving forward.

About NCHENZ

The National Council of Home Educators NZ (NCHENZ) has been an Incorporated Society since 1998, dedicated to supporting and advancing home education across Aotearoa NZ at a national level.

We are the only nationwide homeschooling body in NZ representing all home educators, and we hold a strong commitment to neutrality. As per our Constitution, we do not endorse or promote any particular political, religious, educational, parenting, or socio-economic philosophy or methodology. Our focus is on creating an inclusive environment where all members, regardless of their cultural background or beliefs, feel welcomed and respected.

We have had zero membership fees for many years to ensure that the organisation is accessible to the entire homeschooling community, regardless of personal circumstances.
