Wai Ako is a fantastic new online Te Reo Maori resource for primary aged children which uses waiata to help teach pronunciation and language structure. Wai Ako translates to “Learning Songs” and is based around a series of short music videos which are aligned to the NZ Te Reo Maori Curriculum, Te Aho Arataki Marau mo te Ako i Te Reo Maori. The waiata are simple, repetitive and there is minimal planning time required – just play the videos and get started with your lesson! To check out the programme go to www.waiako.com.
There is a discount for NCHENZ members, just complete the form below and the information will be emailed to you. There is no obligation to go further if you decide Wai Ako is not for you. Information may not be emailed during the school holidays as our volunteers may be on leave. Information will not be emailed from the end of Term 4 (ie. mid December) until the end of January while our volunteers have a break.
If you don’t know your NCHENZ membership number, please request it here.
Please note that the subscriptions are managed directly by Wai Ako so any queries should be directed to them. Feel free to give NCHENZ any feedback though – contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
While NCHENZ is appreciative of being able to negotiate a discounted subscription to Wai Ako for members, please note that this should not be seen as an endorsement of Wai Ako or promotion of the program. We offer this as a service to our members simply because the opportunity has arisen and we think our members will be interested.
