Daniel Playne ( winner of the science and technology AIMES award 2007) I quote:
“Daniel (19) was home-schooled from 1993-2002. During this time he sat the UNSW Young Australian Awards and consistently achieved distinction or high distinction from 1998-2001, putting him in the 90th plus percentile for English, Mathematics, Science, Computing and Writing. In 2002-2003 he sat his bursary via correspondence school achieving an A pass with 338 points. Daniel has been a student at Massey University since 2004 and, at the age of 19, is currently in his postgraduate Honours year having recently completed a Bachelor of Science degree with a grade of A+ for all 24 papers.” Cheryl Playne ( Daniel’s Mother) wrote a reflection to encourage us in our home education journeys.
Jeffrey Brown “My mother, Cally, asked me to write an article about the new beginning I have made this year, in order to show to worried parents that an unschooled child, with no qualifications to speak of, can in every way equal one who has attended school for thirteen years.”
What’s more important than cleverness? Stephanie Walmsley shares: “Last week we had a very happy day when our daughter graduated from the University of Auckland. This young woman has never been to school and never sat an exam before the age of 20. She loved studying and she did so well in her course that she was offered post-graduate study.” Read More
