The National Council of Home Educators, New Zealand is an incorporated society formed in 1998 to encourage, promote, inform and advance the cause of home education in New Zealand at a national level.
Anyone who currently home educates is welcome to join the Council. Our members have a wide variety of educational philosophies. The fee is kept to a nominal one to encourage people to join.
We have a 3-tier membership structure so members can participate at the level at which they have energy.
Member groups receive a 50% discount for any of their members who join the Council as individual members, and are consulted about issues which require members’ approval. They receive information about meetings with the MoE and ERO and other matters of interest.
Council members have individual memberships and can opt to receive agendas and minutes of meetings, join in discussions, advise the committee, and share information and expertise. Issues which require members’ approval are first discussed then an email survey sent. You can see a list of our
current Committee Members
Committee members meet via the Telecom 3-way calling system to work on Council issues. Our current committee is listed here. Our constitution states that the committee must include 2 members from the South Island and 2 from the North.
Friends of NCHENZ are groups that are NOT formally joined to NCHENZ but share some aims in common and have agreed to be listed on this site and stay in communication with NCHENZ. If you would like to be an individual friend of NCHENZ and not fromally join with us please join our forum pages, we would love to get to know you better.
Why should I join?
NCHENZ is the only national home-educators’ group which represents members democratically and by consensus. We need your membership in order to hear your ideas, and be as representative as possible. Here are the forms
