ID Cards for home educated students

NCHENZ is pleased to announce that we will be offering professionally produced ID cards for home educated students next year (Feb/Mar 2010).

The costs will be $8 for individual NCHENZ members or member groups families, and $12 for any other home educated / homeschooled student.

You will need to select if you need a MAXX card ( Auckland) or a CANDO card (Christchurch).

Homeschool Fun was created by Rhonda Albom (from north of Auckland). It contains over 85 links to fun educational websites. The links are organized in five categories: general; arts (including music) and crafts; science, history and geography; maths; and, language and reading. It also includes a bit of “me” and a few other homeschool related links – including the funniest homeschool video I have ever seen. It is created to be a useful resource for all homeschool families, so please pass it on.
Books To Read A blog listing books to enjoy together as well as some suggestions resources for home education. Also included are some videos on how to teach phonics and beginning Math. All the children’s books have links to the National Library catalogue listing and the Auckland Libraries catalogue listing. Written by Tarnya Burge Mother of 8.

National Library allows 5year olds access

The National Library has allowed access to 5 year old homeschooled children (previously the age limit was 6yrs). Our thanks to the Library, and thanks to CHE member Lennie who approached them with this issue. A copy of the birth certificate is required and a copy of an exemption when the child turns 6 years old.
