I asked our committee if they had any other thoughts
"You are correct. You can leave school and enrol as a Young Adult with the Correspondence School. They also have a programme called Gateway which helps young people get into work by doing NCEA credits related to vocational training and provides a transition into work by linking with business. So I think you could look at this option also. Its worth while he talking to someone at the Correspondence School as well as the Careers Service."

Hello David,
There are lots of options open to you: not only the correspondence school but also a youth courses or an apprenticeship
http://www.skills4work.org.nz/apprentice/home/home.aspx. Have you talked to someone at your school? Can I suggest that you ring the number on this website:
http://www2.careers.govt.nz/talk_it_over.html
so you can talk through all the options with someone. If you don't get the advice or help you need then ask them to recommend someone who can help you.
Your idea of the correspondence school is a good one: I'm pleased you are thinking of going on with your education. Do let us know how you get on by leaving a comment.

"Home educators, once they turn 16, can go for NCEA qualifications via TCS at home for free."

I just finished year 11 at a local school and I'm turning 16 on December 20th 2009. I want to do correspondence next year, because I'm sick of people, and I want to leave home some time in the near future.

If home educators do NOT need exemption certificates to enter correspondence at 16 years old, does that mean that a 16 year old who is a public educator can quit school and do correspondence instead?
